The Cassiopeia Institute came about as an idea, a vision, in 2019 while visiting a loved one in the South of England. “I’d like a space,” I told her, “where the artists, activists and like-minded scholars I am in conversation with can come together.” It was, then, meant to be a virtual place holder for something bigger yet to arrive.
Much has changed both in the world and in my own life since 2019. Most of the people I’ve known have since fallen away and are no longer friends if, friends, they ever were. Thus, this page, The Cassiopeia Institute begins here from scratch, and I venture out with it alone as I have been born once, twice, three times before, alone. So many deaths I’ve now grown weary of humans and humanity. Though one thing remains constant and continues to grow and glow brighter than ever. This thing or rather things that I do, learning and writing for myself and others, have been my anchor and I persist. A great many authors, and keepers of books, from across great distances, in both time and space, have been my companions along the way. Along with two cats who share our small home.
Over the last few weeks debating with myself on how or where to begin, some books/voices have spoken louder and with far more urgency than others. So, I begin by sharing what I’ve learned from them and offer my apologies to anyone who was expecting more, such as some well thought-out manifesto, for I’ve none to offer. Though I do offer a pledge.
I pledge to write often, and honestly, with the integrity I embody in this moment.
